Welcome to Chatlator – a language-exchange messaging app that helps users communicate and learn languages seamlessly.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our mobile app or website.

By using Chatlator, you agree to this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect limited information necessary to operate the app safely and effectively:

• Account details: email address and password (securely encrypted and never visible to us)
• Profile information: display name, base language, and learning language
• Messages and media: text messages and photos you send or receive (stored securely on Bubble’s servers)
• Usage data: timestamps, app activity, and device information
• Support communications: if you contact us for help or feedback

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

• Operate the chat, translation, and user features
• Improve reliability, performance, and security
• Provide customer support and technical assistance
• Notify you of updates or policy changes

We never sell or rent your data to anyone.

4. Data Storage and Security

All data is hosted on Bubble.io’s encrypted cloud servers.

• Passwords are hashed and cannot be read by anyone.
• Data transmitted between you and the app is encrypted.
• Access is limited to essential personnel for maintenance and troubleshooting only.

5. Third-Party Services

We use trusted providers strictly for app functionality, including:

• DeepL API – to translate messages
• Analytics tools – to monitor app performance

These providers comply with GDPR and equivalent data protection standards.

6.  Safety, Reporting and Content Control

Chatlator includes features that allow users to Report or Block other users if they encounter inappropriate, offensive, or harmful content.

When content is reported to us via the in-app reporting tools or by emailing support@chatlator.com, we will:

• Review the report
   
• Take action within 24 hours
   
• Remove any content that violates our guidelines or terms
   
• Block, suspend or permanently eject the offending user
   
• Prevent repeat abuse or harmful behaviour
   

If you block another user, they will no longer be able to contact you and their past messages will no longer appear in your chat view.

Reported content is permanently deleted within 24 hours unless retention is legally required for fraud, abuse, or security investigations (maximum retention: 30 days).

Chatlator prohibits content including harassment, hate speech, bullying, illegal activity, impersonation, explicit content, and any harmful behaviour.

7. Your Rights

You can:

• Request a copy of your data
• Ask for corrections or deletion
• Delete your account and data at any time through app settings or by contacting us

8. Children’s Privacy

Chatlator is for users aged 13 or older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

10. Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Updates will be posted within the app and on our website, with the latest revision date shown above.

11. Account Deletion

If you wish to delete your Chatlator account and all associated data, please email support@chatlator.com with the subject line “Delete My Account” from the same email address linked to your Chatlator account.

Once we receive your request:

• Your account, messages, and profile information will be permanently deleted from our database.
• Any photos or media shared within chats will also be deleted from our servers.
• We will retain minimal information (such as email logs) only if legally required, for security or compliance purposes, for up to 30 days.
   

After deletion, your data cannot be recovered.
